A day full of adventures! The volunteers at Dayspring, Anita, Arnaud, and Anne-Françoise, planned and funded a full day of activities for the children at Dayspring.

“We all left in a beautiful pink bus at 1:00 am on Saturday morning in order to be in Kanyakumari in time for sunrise. After a four hour drive we were on the spot!! We headed to the beach and put our toes in the sand while it was still dark. The kids were not too reassured at the beginning but soon started to enjoy the feeling of wet sand on their feet!

We then waited for sunrise looking at the statue of Tiruvalluvar (a Tamoul Saint) and the Vivekananda Memorial (a Bengali philosopher) located on a nearby island.

After sunrise we took the boat to visit the memorial. Some kids were a bit scared. We guess they do not know how to swim and that must have been quite an experience!!! We all enjoyed the visit and took some group pictures.

Kids at the Point

The next adventure was an hour drive with loud music and a lot of dancing to reach the Padmanabhapuram Palace. We visited the Palace and the heritage museum.

After lunch we returned to Kanyakumari to visit Ghandi’s Memorial and treat the kids to ice creams!!!! They also had fun on the playground adjacent to the Memorial.

Last, but not least, Anita and the older kids enjoyed a bath in the ocean!!!!! That was everyone’s favourite part of the day.

The return was very quiet as most of the children (and adults) enjoyed a good rest during the drive home. We stopped in a restaurant along the way for dinner to put a great end to this fantastic trip!”
